Our season begins on Monday, September 10th and we will have a clinic each Monday and Wednesday from 6-7PM until October 29th. We will meet at Varsity practice field which is the farthest field in the back at the bottom of the hill at the high school. In order to come prepared each week for our clinic you will need to make sure your sons or daughters have the following:
- Mouthpiece - we will make some contact and having a mouthpiece is mandatory for the kids safety.
- Cleats - the fields can get wet and slippery especially as we get into October.
- Water bottle - while it is only an hour - we will keep them moving.

Clinic Red Roles Against Roxbury 25-6
Jack Dugan and Kienan Lyons set the tone for Saturday's game during Roxbury's first possession. On 1st and 10, Dugan stuffed a Roxbury Colt running back for a loss of 2 yards, and just two plays later, Kienan Lyons intercepted a Colt pass and ran it back 20 yards, giving the Bears excellent field position. The Bears offense moved down the field, but found themselves in a 4th and goal situation from the 8 yard line. Sonny Abramson dropped back and lofted a pass in the deep corner of the end zone where Zachary Hawkins pulled the ball in for the game's first score. Harrison Mauer, PJ O'Donnell, John Savino, Jack Dugan and Tommy Morrell, members of the Bears' "Fearsome 5", made a solid wall giving Abramson time to complete the pass.
The Bears Defense had Roxbury back on its heels most of the day. With outstanding play from every position the Bears held a very physical Colts team to only 6 points and less than 75 yards of offense. Alec Haddad managed several stops behind the line of scrimmage, Shawn and Ryan Goryeb did an excellent job containing the outside with Shawn delivering a perfect hit, stopping a Colt runner along the sideline in the second half. Andrew Robshaw was a dominant force in the middle making several hits and stripping the ball from a Colt runner. Adding to the Defense's powerful play were, Bryan Bishop, Mac Iuliano, Tommy Morrell, Robert Rybski Jeff Sica, and John Conte.
The Bears offense went over and around Colt Defenders scoring twice in each half. Sonny Abramson was 4 of 6 passing for 60 yards and 2 passing TD's. In addtion to Zach Hawkins who had two receptions for 38 yards, Matt Ungar and Luke Anselmi made excellent catches, Ungar running one of those receptions in for a Bear TD. Ungar also bolted 50 yards for another score. After an Abramson to Hawkins pass completion of 30 yards, Andrew Robshaw rumbled 21 yards to the Colt 2 yard line setting up the Bear's final score. After missing several games due to broken fingers, Conrad Hall returned to action and made a strong showing on the Bears offensive line along with fellow linemen Fritz Ortman and Chris Colon. The game ended with a powerful tackle by John Savino causing another Colt fumble.
Bears Clinic Red Flies High Against The Hawks 32-6
It took only 4 plays for the Bears to light up the scoreboard. On 4th and 1 Sonny
Abramson slammed into the Hawks defensive line, broke 3 tackles and sprinted 51 yards for the games first TD. On the Bears next possession, Danny Mchugh bolted through a giant hole on the right side of the line, created by John Savino, PJ O'Donell and Brian Speicher for a 56 yard TD run. Then it was Matt Ungar's turn - going untouched around the left end for two more touchdowns of 68 and 40 yards each. Tommy Morrell, Jack Dugan, Zach Hawkins and Danny Mchugh each threw tremendous blocks to spring Ungar to the outside.
The Bears defense again showed their power by holding the Hawks to just 82 yards in total offense. Their aggressive attack resulted in 3 fumbles and multiple tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Jack Dugan Harassed the Hawks backfield all game. The middle of the field was controlled by Gio Czarecki, Andrew Robshaw, PJ O'Donnell, Griffin McGuire and Mac Iuliano. While Nick Anselmi, Kienan Lyons, John Conte, Chris Schlegel, Robert Rybski and Tommy Morrell locked down the outside.
Ungar added one more TD in the second half behind the blocks of Fritz Ortman and Harrison Maurer, while Sonny Abramson completed a 25 yard pass to Zach Hawkins on 4th and 18 to put the game on ice. The Bears offense totaled 422 yards.
Bears Clinic Red Romps in Randolph
The Bears came out hungry after their first loss of the season, and beat Randolph 19-0. Bear's defenders held the Bulldogs to just 98 yards getting the third shutout of the season. The Bear's offensive attack marched up and down the field gaining 281. After a 4 and out series controlled by the Bear's defense, the offense wasted little time ripping through the Bulldog line for gains of 25 yards by Matt Ungar, and 35 yards by Danny Mchugh. Jack Dugan and John Savino each had crushing blocks to spring the Bear Backs. Mchugh finished the drive with a 5 yard TD run around the left end. On their second drive the Bears exploded again scoring in just 4 plays, highlighted by a 40 yard sprint by Mathew Ungar for the TD. Luke Anselmi showed his versatility, by throwing great blocks all game and catching a 15 yard bullet thrown by Sonny Abramson during a 12 play drive to start the second half. Brian Speicher added to the Bear's powerful play from his tackle spot on the O line. Ungar ended the Bears scoring with a 39 yard cut back run late in 4th quarter.
The Bears defense "team tackled" Randolph throughout the game. Mac Iuliano, Robert Rybski, Christopher Pavlinec, helped hold the Bulldogs in check allowing only 2.5 yards per play. Andrew Robshaw, Gio Czarecki, Alec Haddad, Bryan Bishop and Griffin McGuire controlled the middle, while Tommy Morrell, Christopher Schlegel, Kienan Lyons and Shawn Goryeb stuffed Randolph's outside attack. Chris Schlegel made an incredible open field tackle to halt a Randolph drive, while Tommy Morrell grabbed a Bulldog fumble and turned the ball back to his offense. Bear coaches agreed ... "this is the type of football we know these boys can play".
Victory Slips away from Clinic Red
Long Valley Raiders began Sunday's game with a 13 play drive utilizing most of the first quarter, but the Bears defense stiffened and stopped the Raiders inside the 20. Alec Haddad, Jack Dugan, Drew Robshaw, Tommy Morrell and Chris Schlegel played aggressive D, bending but not breaking. John Conte, Griffin Mcguire, and Bryan Bishop stuffed many hard runs up the middle to help the Bears stand.
The Bears offense took possession of the ball at their own 20. Showing their version of power football, they proceeded to control the line of scrimmage for the next 12 minutes on a 15 play, 62 yard Drive, that ended on the Raiders 28. John Savino, Jack Dugan, PJ O'Donnell, Harrison Mauer and Luke Anselmi lead the attack and cleared the way for Matt Ungar and Danny Mchugh. The half ended on a Justin Connell interception in a scoreless tie.
During the second half the Raiders continued their hard nosed play, scoring 14 points on two long runs. The Bears then responded with a 40 yard TD run by Mathew Ungar and a powerful blast up the middle by Sonny Abramson for the extra point. The Raiders put the game away with one more slippery run giving them a 21-7 victory. While the score seemed one sided the game was evenly matched - Bears nearly equaled the Raiders output running only 8 less plays and amassing only 40 fewer yards in the loss.
Bears Clinic Red Remain Undefeated
The Clinic Red Squad showed its versatility this weekend by beating the Somerset Bulldogs. While the score was 14 to 6 it hardly reflects the domination that the Bears demonstrated. The offense was on the field for more than 70% of the game, running a bruising ball control attack. The Backfield of Ungar and Mchugh combined for 214 yards, and QB Sonny Abramson again teamed with Zach Hawkins, this time on a fade route in the end zone for the second TD of the game. The Bears had two other scoring opportunities halted on by penalties. The offensive line stepped up and was a key to the team's dominance. John Savino, Jack Dugan, Tommy Morrell, Brian Speicher, PJ O'Donnell, Harrison Maurer, Fritz Ortman, Luke Anselmi, Drew Robshaw, Phillip Hettinger and Christian Keena all threw critical blocks to help control the Bulldogs defense.
The Bear's Defense again showed its teeth, holding the Bulldogs to just 53 total yards in offense. Drew Robshaw had several punishing stops while Jack Dugan, Gio Czarecki, Nick Anselmi, Chris Schlegel, Ryan Goryeb proved to be an impenetrable wall. The only Bulldog score came on a fumble recovery and return for a TD. The Bears D has yet to be scored upon.
Twin Boro Bears Clinic Red Ties Rockaway in opener.
The Bears' Clinic Red squad fought to a scoreless tie with the Rockaway Rockets. In a spectacular defensive struggle the Bears held the Rockets on numerous drives, highlighted by two stops inside the 15 yard line. Tommy Morrell, Jack Dugan, Gio Czarecki, Kienan Lyons and Christopher Schlegel were defensive standouts, but the shutout was the result of outstanding team play. Players across the line and throughout the defensive backfield made critical stops, Justin Connell, PJ ODonnell, Nick Anselmi and Alec Haddad turned in solid performances. In one critical play Haddad stripped the ball from a Rockaway Rocket and Lyons recovered -crushing another Rocket Drive.
The offense faced a physical Rockaway Defense all afternoon. Danny Mchugh ran hard, while a 60 yard TD run by Mathew Ungar was called back late in the first half. After several near pass completions, Sonny Abramson avoided the rush and stepped up in the pocket and threw a perfect strike to Zach Hawkins for a 40 yard gain as time ran out.

The Pee Wee Bears played great football Sunday to defeat the Roxbury Colts 28-8 at home to improve their record to 3 wins, 4 losses. Superior offensive line play led an explosive attack that scored 4 touchdowns, three on plays greater than 45 yards. The Bears defensive was in the Colts' backfield all game to inflict hard hitting tackles and multiple quarterback sacks.
The tone of the game was set on Roxbury's first series after they returned the opening kickoff to the 40 yard line. The Colts lost three yards on first down after a crushing tackle by Austin Turner. Mike McKeon's hard hit on second down caused a fumble, recovered by Roxbury for no gain. Gary Marshuetz's quarterback sack on third down forced Roxbury to punt. The Bears offense promptly scored on their first series on a 52-yard pass play from Jack Horan to Will Robinson. Gavin Coutts' extra point kick split the uprights, and the Bears were up 8-0 with 3:46 left in the first quarter.
Roxbury scored on their next series on two long runs and kicked their extra point to tie the score at 8-8. Dan Shea led the Bears comeback by returning the kickoff to the 50 yard line. Excellent blocking by Liam McGinley, Joey Paragano, Nick Dobson, Connor Brady and Connor Holleran opened up holes that allowed the Bears to cover the 50 yards in 7 running plays by Tim Gillespie, Gavin Coutts and Jack Horan, interspersed with one seven yard pass reception by Ian Graham. Gavin Coutts eventually scored from 8 yards. The extra point was missed and the Bears led 14-8.
Roxbury went 4 and out on the next series of downs, as successive quarterback sacks with tackles by Gary Marshuetz, Zack Singer and Chris Vrana left the Colts with a 4th and 25 before their punt. The first half ended 14-8 Bears.
The game's outcome was decided early in the second half when the Bears made a great defensive stop on the Colts and quickly followed with a score of their own. Dan Shea started the second half with another good kickoff return, but a Bears fumble gave the ball to the Colts on the Bears 28. Three plays later the Colts were headed for a game tying score with a first and 10 on the Bears 15. Cooper Lathrop then tackled the Roxbury ball carrier for a 4 yard loss, followed by no gain on 2nd down. The Colts then completed a 6 yard pass to bring up 4th and 8 from the 13 yard line. On 4th down, Connor Holleran broke through the Roxbury line and sacked the quarterback for a 6 yard loss, ending the threat and turning the ball over to the Bears.
The Bears made the most of their opportunity. On first and ten from the Colts 45, the left side of the offensive line (Colin Hastings, Liam McGinley, Will Robinson and Joey Paragano) opened up a tremendous hole that Tim Gillespie ran through for a touchdown. Gavin Coutts kicked the extra point to make the score 22-8 Bears with 8:26 remaining in the game.
The Bears tacked on a final score toward the end of the game on a 52 yard option run by Jack Horan. The run included two quick cut backs against the grain to get free for the score. The game ended with the final score 28-8.
Bears Pee Wee Football Team Lose to Jefferson 0 - 22
The Jefferson Falcons defeated the Pee Wee Bears (2-4) 22-0, on Saturday evening in Jefferson. Jefferson scored their points during the first half of the game, with the Bears defense stiffening and keeping the Falcons scoreless in the second half. The Bears offense struggled in the first half, but came out of the halftime break moving the ball. The Bears played a much-improved second half, holding Jefferson scoreless and moving the ball on two successive drives, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
The Bears were stung by a string of quick Falcon scores in the first quarter and halfway through the second quarter. After the opening kickoff, Jefferson scored on their third play on a 68 yard pass reception. The extra point run made the score 7-0 Falcons. The Bears offense turned the ball over on downs, and Jefferson started a 51 yard drive to the goal, only this time, Jack Horan made a terrific interception of a Falcon pass in the end zone that ended the threat. On the Bears next possession, they faced a 4th and 18 from their own 12 yard line. A fumbled snap ended up in a safety and the Bears were down 9-0. The Bears punted after the safety, and the Falcons scored on their first play from scrimmage, a 53-yard sweep, but missed the extra point. The Bears drive then stalled. Jefferson took over again and scored after a pass reception and a sweep, the extra point brought the score to 22-0. Jefferson continued throwing deep passes on their next series, but Will Robinson's interception thwarted the Falcons advance. Two fine individual plays in the first half included Dan Shea's long return of a kickoff and Zack Borkan's recovery of an onside kick.
After the second half kick-off, the Bears' Zack Singer scampered 11 yards for the Bears initial first down of the game. Two more Zack Singer runs and a quarterback sneak by Jack Horan gave the Bears another first down. The Bears offensive line played a significant role in the turnaround, led by Liam McGinley, Joey Paragano, Colin Hastings, Gary Marshuetz and Dylan McDevitt. Unfortunately, the drive was stopped at that point by a Falcon pass interception. Jefferson drove the ball down field only to meet a hard-hitting Bear defense, including tackles by Connor Brady, Gavin Coutts and Ross Coapman. The Bears took over on downs and started to move the ball again on successive carries by Tim Gillespie, highlighted by a 25-yard run. The running game stalled at mid-field and Jefferson took over on downs. The Bears defense came alive on the final series, penetrating the Falcons line twice; Connor Brady caused a fumble, recovered by the Falcons but with a two-yard loss, and Gavin Coutts penetrated the backfield for another Falcon loss. The game ended with much improved play by the Bears.

Bears Pee Wee Football Team Lose to Randolph 15 - 30
Randolph, NJ - The RandoIph Bulldogs overpowered the Pee Wee Bears (2-3) with good offense and defensive play at the Randolph turf fields. Although the Bears effort was assisted by some great individual play and was able to execute on offense, the Bulldogs were too much for the team as a whole.
The Bears scored touchdowns in each half of play. On the first, Timmy Gillespie rand for 58 yards by running off tackle in classic smash mouth style, putting the Bears up temporarily 7 - 6. For the second touchdown, the Bears mounted a 9-play drive from the 50 yard line capped by a score by Gillespie. Gavin Coutts converted the first extra point on the ground and booted the 2-pointer after the second score. But Randolph, with a sound running game, repeatedly ravaged the Bears defense for long gains early in the game, putting up three scores to reach 7 - 22 at the half. The Bulldog juggernaut was hard to stop in the first half as the Bears gave up touchdown runs for 97, 22 and 10 yards, before a more stout defensive effort emerged in the second half.
After the kick-off, the Bears showed early that they could move the ball as Quarterback Jack Horan completed passes to Brad Theiss for 17 and 8 yards. Nevertheless, because of a penalty, the Bears were forced to punt, and nailed the Bulldogs down to their own 3 yard line. On the first play, however, Randolph caught the Bears flatfooted with a 97 yard run down the sideline. Missing the extra point, the Bulldogs led 0 - 7 early in the first quarter.
On the next series of downs, the Bears responded with a 4 play drive from their own 33 yard line, capped by the long run by Gillespie, and it looked like the Bears were going to make a game of it. But on the next series of downs, the Bulldogs showed they could gather up yards in a hurry. After Liam McGinley's kick off to the Randolph 45, the Bulldogs responded immediately with a 33 yard pass play. Briefly disrupted by a crushing tackle for no gain by Connor Brady, Randolph ran into the end zone from the 10 yard line. By converting the kick, the Bulldogs went ahead to stay at 7 - 14.
The Bears returned to the air on the next series of downs, but Randolph's defense stiffened, resulting in a punt to the Bears 40 yard line. In six plays, the Bulldogs were in the end zone again. Although the following series resulted in a tipped-ball interception, the Bears defense held with solid tackles by Zack Singer and Connor Holleran and the first half expired with the Bears in jeopardy 7 - 22.
In the second half, the Bulldogs scored first, on a long drive from their own 38, but the Bears made them struggle for it. Down 7 - 30, the Bears defense stiffened for the remainder of the 3rd and 4th quarters, as Randolph's attack ground to a halt repeatedly. The offense moved the ball in the fourth quarter, leading to the score and extra point, but it was too little too late. Time expired with the Bears losing 14 - 30.

Bears Pee Wee Football Team Outlasts Long Valley 14-7
Mendham, NJ - In a football game characterized by sound all-around playing by both teams, the Pee Wee Bears (2-2) team defeated a tough Long Valley team 14 - 7. A solid Bears defensive effort was complemented by consistent, driving offensive plays leading to the single touchdown decision over the Raiders.
The Bears scores were made in a balanced offensive attack leading to two touchdowns. Quarterback Jack Horan entered the end zone in a 5 yard sneak in the first half, and Horan connected with Will Robinson for an 82 yard pass play in the second half. Gavin Coutts converted a 2-point play by booting the ball through the uprights. After the game, the coaches were pleased with the effort in a game where every Bear had quality playing time.
After a solid kick-off by Ross Coapman, the Raiders drove down the field for a touchdown on the first set possession of play in the first quarter. The Raider's approach was largely a consistent ground attack, exploiting the middle defensive line of the Bears for consistent large gains. Long Valley was successful by scoring the first touchdown of the game on a 15-yard run off tackle into the end zone. With the extra point conversion good on the ground, it appeared to be a long day for the Bears.
But the Bears responded quickly with a solid drive to the end zone with balanced running and passing, and defensive adjustments for the Bears stopped the Raiders numerous times on 4th down. Following the Raiders' drive, the Bears put together an 8 play drive resulting in the first score. Solid running by Timmy Gillespie and Zack Singer was complemented with an excellent 15-yard catch by Tight End Zack Borkan. After the score by Horan, the Bears lined up for a kick for two points. The utter nervousness of the crowd appeared warrantless as Coutts executed the extra two points in a flawless display of team football by all 11 Bears on the field.
After the score, the Bears defense stiffened mightily with solid play by Connor Holleran, supported by the aggressive secondary of Danny Shea, Pierce Meade and Coapman. Having difficulty advancing the ball, the Raider offense fizzled as the first half ended with the Bears clinging to an 8-7 lead.
The third quarter was marked by a solid effort of defensive play by both teams. The Bears and Raiders' offenses seemed to be stopped by the other team's defense for several consecutive series, leading to a see-saw match. After one of these turnovers, the Bears had the ball on their own 18 yard line, when Horan hit Robinson for a short pass over the middle, leading to the long touchdown play. As the Bears failed on the extra point attempt and the 3rd quarter expired with the Bears ahead 14 - 7.
In the 4th quarter, the Raiders' ground attack re-ignited briefly, as touchdown saving tackles were made by Liam McGinley and Gillespie. Regardless of the Bears defensive effort, the Raiders were able to make a game of it with some last minute histrionics. Driving to the Bears 20-yard line with less than a minute to play, Long Valley resorted to the sneaky trick play book reminiscent of the 1971 hit movie, MASH and nearly ended up immortalized forever on U-Tube. Prior to the whistle, the center surreputuously handed the QB the ball, who seeming walked over to his coach for advice. When clear of the Bears defensive line, he sprinted to the end zone in nasty fashion for an apparent score while the Bears milled around helplessly. The stunned crowd was relieved by the official call on the field declaring the indiscretion an illegal play. In colorful fashion, with animated hand signals and direct language, an argument ensued between the Ref and the Long Valley coach, lasting a tense moment or two. But alas, the ref held his ground firm, leading to a replay with the result of a stuffing by the Bears for no gain on 4th down. Having re-gained the ball, the Bears kneed the ball for the win.

Bears Pee Wee Football Team Lose to Rockaway Rockets
Rockaway, NJ - On a cool Saturday evening, the Rockaway Rockets defeated the Twin Boro Bears (0-2) by a score of 22 - 6 at Peterson field in Rockaway. The Rockets overpowered the Bears for the first three quarters of the contest, putting up 22 unanswered points and placing the game out of reach of the Bears. The bears put up a spirited effort at the end of the game with effective offense and formidable defense, however; it was too little too late.
On the first drive of the game, Rockaway received the ball and moved efficiently from their own 45 yard line to the Bears 19 in 7 plays. A gang of Bears forced a fumble, which was recovered by Gavin Coutts at the 19 yard line. Three plays for short gain were followed by a 4th down sneak by the punter, which failed. Having received the ball, the Rockets were able to capitalize two plays later on the ground with a touchdown. With the extra point, Rockaway led the Bears early in the first quarter 7-0.
On the following drive, the Bears showed effective running ability against the Rockets, after Brad Theiss returned the kickoff to the Bears 43 yard line. With gains of 20 and 5 by quarterback Jack Horan, and a 18 yard scamper by Zack Singer behind a massive block by Timmy Gillespie, the Bears looked to even the contest at the Rockets 12 yard line. Alas, the first of several Bear fumbles halted the driving lads cold in their tracks.
The Rockets effectively capitalized on the mistake. Initially, the Bears defense held the opponents to short yardage, with jacked-up tackles by Danny Shea, Liam McGinley and Pierce Mead. Unfortunately, at the Rockaway 38 yard line, the Rockets executed a tricky reverse, which caught the Bears flat and resulting in a 62 yard run for the touchdown. With the extra point, the Bears had dug themselves into a 14-0 deficit with about 2 minutes left in the half.
The Bear's fans were stunned by the unfortunate events. The Bears remained focused, however, by have a good return on the following kickoff to their own 48 yard line. With time winding down, the Bears went to the air, as Horan connected with wide receiver Spencer Klavsons for 7 yards. Regrettably, the Rockets defense held the Bears to a couple of incomplete passes as the half expired.
In the second half, the Bears were afflicted by a second fumble, losing the ball to the Rockets on their own 47 yard line. On the following drive, the Bears defense stiffened behind the backfield play of Connor Brady and Michael McKeon. The Bears received possession on downs on their own 45 yard line, they looked forward to returning to their drive.
On first down, a disaster ensued with an Rocket intercepting the Bears pass in the flat, running it back for a touchdown. As Rockaway was effective in their kicking of the extra point, they now led 22-0 midway through the 3rd quarter.
On the following kick-off, the Bears finally put together an effective drive. Starting at their own 42 yard line, the Bears' running game caught fire with repeated gains behind the effective blocking of Connor Holleran, Joey Paragano, Devon Maurer, Chris Vrana and Zack Borkan. Cooper Lathrop blasted through for a 9 yard gain. The Bears then drove to the Rocket's 31 yard line in 8 plays. Finally, Alex Jacobs, showing a great second effort, ran up the middle for the Bears touchdown. After failing on the extra point, the Rockets led 22-6.
After the Bears kick-off, the Rockets had the ball on their own 41 yard line. The Bears defense showed their mettle by providing solid pressure by Nick Dobson, Richard Masiello, and Austin Turner. In a particularly bone crushing display of football prowess, Colin Hastings stuffed the runner for short gain. Singer and Gillespie continued the pressure by tackling the Rockets for a 7 yard loss. The momentum of the teams seemed to have shifted, but alas, time expired in the game. The Bears suffered a 22-6 defeat.

Bears Pee Wee Football Team Lose Nail Biter To Arch-nemesis Morristown
In a game whose outcome was not known until the last play, the Morristown Junior Colonials (1-0) defeated the Twin Boro Bears (0-1) by a score of 12 - 6 on a sweltering Sunday afternoon. In a classic defensive contest, the Bears had led for much of the final two quarters. Morristown covered 45 yards in the final two plays of the game, including a 21 yard pass play into the end zone, to secure the victory.
Frequent close games by these teams over the years have forged an intense rivalry, and both teams dedicated their veteran players to the spectacle. As a result, the Bear's "red" offense and "red" defense was on the field for much of the game.
The Bears aggressive defense held the Junior Colonials scoreless through three Quarters. Joey Paragano, Michael McKeon, Connor Holleran, Connor Brady and Gavin Coutts repeatedly pursued their opponent's ball carriers for short yardage, rendering Morristown's ground game ineffective. Defense Tackle Liam McGinley recorded a sack and spent much of the afternoon in the Jr. Colonial's backfield. Cornerback Danny Shea was effective at stopping several sweep attempts around the Bear's defensive line for little gain. Alex Jacobs blocked a punt attempt in the first quarter and recovered the ball. The net effect of the Bear's intensive defensive pressure was frequent Morristown punts, resulting in reasonably good field possession for the Bears throughout much of the game.
During the first half of the game, the Bear's offense could not capitalize on frequent possessions allowed by the defense. Morristown's defensive line was effective at stopping the Bear's running game through the first half of play. The bears could pass effectively, though, as Quarterback Jack Horan completed long pass to Tight End Will Robinson to the Morristown 20 yard line. The bears were hopeful for a score, as the play was followed up by a 5 yard gain by Coutts, but regrettably, the drive sputtered out under tough defensive pressure. Morristown mounted a drive starting at their own 12 yard line with the help of a Bear's penalty and a pass completion, but bone crushing tackles by McGinley stopped them cold just as the half expired at a 0-0 tie.
In the third Quarter, the Bear's offense woke with a roar as Tim Gillespie ran for a 10 yard gain. Regrettably, the Colonials recovered a fumble at the Bears 44. Stiff defense of the Bears resulted in a punt. The Bears had possession at their own 34 yard line.
Zack Singer forged ahead on the ground for a 5 yard gain. Then Horan connected a second time to Robinson for a 61 yard pass play, resulting in a Bear's touch-down. The 2-point conversion failed for the Bears against the Junior Colonial defense.
The Bears continued to dominate the Junior Colonials through the balance of the 3rd period. In an emotional moment, Gary Marchuetz sacked the opposing quarterback for an 11-yard loss. The resulting punt gave the Bears possession at their 48 yard line as time expired in the third period. The crowd seemed content that the contest was well in hand as the Bears led 6-0., with the parental interests quite loose and relaxed enjoying the gala affair.
To open the 4th quarter, the Bear's offense continued to sputter and turned the ball over on 4 downs. With the ball on the 47 yard line, the Jr. Colonial's offense ignited with a run around the left side, which was stopped by Devon Mauer in a touch down saving tackle. Another long run around the right hand side, followed by a 15 yard pass play into the end zone, and the Jr. Colonials had evened the score. Their two point attempt failed, leaving the score 6 -6 with about 8 minutes left to play.
Marchuetz recovered the on-side kick, and the Bear's offense temporarily got going with a great second effort by Jacobs on a first down run. But the Bear's offense was afflicted by a series of unfortunate events - a 35 yard touchdown run by Gillespie called back by a penalty and a series of incomplete passes and a sack - resulted in the Jr. Colonials having good field possession on the Bear's 43 with 4 minutes to play.
The Bear's defense answered the call again with a series of good defensive play highlighted by a 7 yard sack by Paragano. The Bears had the ball with 2 minutes to go. Regrettably, with a couple of incomplete passes and a well executed reverse to Brad Theiss that was well pursued by the Morristown defensive backfield, the Jr. Colonials regained possession deep in Bears territory with less than a minute to play.
The Jr. Colonial's final possession started with a 9 yard gain to the Bears 30 yard line. Yet, a long snap resulted in a simply awesome sack by Austin Turner to the Bears 45 yard line, with only 14 seconds left to play. At this point, the parental interests felt a tie was in the making, but alas, the Jr. Colonial's rose to the occasion with a 24 yard pass play, stopped with a touchdown saving tackle by Theiss. On the final play of the game, with 2 seconds left, Morristown threw the game winner their running back in the end zone.
Although dejected in the loss, the Bears effort was quite admirable. The rivalry continues.

The hitting picked up for both squads in the 2nd Half as the Bears offense, led by Quarterback Colin Self, put together a few long drives that ended deep in Falcon territory. The bears just couldn't to put the ball in the endzone as Jefferson's defense would bend but not break. TJ Jones, John DelTufo and Chris Maffei made some key blocks that sprung Self on some 20 yard runs around the ends. The Bears defense continued to hit hard as Dan Ghazzone, Jack Haggerty and Zach Bedrosian stuffed the Jefferson running game. Colin Self took over as QB to lead the Bears. Our Offensive line consisiting of Michael DeBenedictus, Jimmy Conte, John DelTufo, Ryan Lilieholm and Cole Perkins did a great job of opening holes as the Bears offense was looking for a break but couldn't find one in the first quarter. However, another late score allowed the Raiders to go into the half leading 14-0.
